Captain James "Pete" Petruzzi

Currently stationed as a Captain on 8 Truck in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh, the Capt. has been involved with the emergency services field for over 30 years. He first got his start in the fire service with West Mifflin VFC. After a stint in the U.S. Air Force, the Capt. joined the Pittsburgh EMS as a paramedic where he would stay for 10 years. In 1989, Pete became a city of Pittsburgh fire fighter stationed at number 8. In 1999, Pete was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant of 14 Truck in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. In three short years, Pete was promoted to the rank of Captain. He worked for eight months at the Pittsburgh Training Academy as a staff instructor until he made it back to Station 8 where he has been stationed for the last seven and a half years. The Capt. has been teaching Fire, Ems, and Rescue classes for over 25 years. His favorite classes to teach are Firefighter Survival, Structure Fire Rescue, Confined Space, and Rope 1 and 2.

 

Lieutenant James “Skin Bone” Ellis

Currently stationed as a Lieutenant on 8 Engine in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh, Jim is a 4th generation firefighter. Jim got his start in the fire service with Mars Fire dept. In 1992, Jim joined the Air Force where he completed the fire protection training, and he continues to use those skills in the reserves, with the Air National Guard.  In 1996, Jim became a full-time firefighter with Wilkinsburg Fire Department. In 1999, Jim became a member of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire where he quickly rose to become a Lieutenant in 2004. Jim has been teaching fire and rescue classes for more than twelve years, and is known for teaching any and all Truck and Rapid Intervention classes.

 

Firefighter Dan Doyle

Dan is currently assigned to 8 Engine and Truck in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh. He is a 3rd generation firefighter with his grandfather being previously Fire Chief of Monroeville. Dan started his fire career at Monroeville 3. In 1992, Dan moved to Monroeville 4 where he became a live-in and served a number of years as Lieutenant and eventually Captain. Dan was briefly a full-time firefighter for the Borough of Swissvale until he was hired for Fairfax County. He moved to Fairfax, Virginia in 1998 and worked full-time until 2006. One of the transforming moments of his career was in 2001 when he was part of the initial fire and rescue response to the Pentagon on September 11th. Dan has been teaching fire and rescue trainings since 1994. His teaching interests are in the areas of Rapid Intervention Teams, Firefighter Survival, and Engine Company Operations..

 

Firefighter Rich Shay

Rich is currently assigned to 8 Engine and Truck in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh. Rich got his start with Ross/West View Ems in the summer of 1996. In 1999 Rich joined Berkeley Hills F.C. in Ross Twp and held several Lieutenants spots over the years. In 2006 rich was hired by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire. Rich has been teaching since 2000. His favorite classes to teach are any Truck classes, Structure Fire Rescue, Firefighter Survival, and Rapid Intervention classes.

 

Lieutenant Joe “Maggs” Magliocca

For the last four years Joe has been assigned as a Lieutenant to 8 Engine in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh. Joe began his career as a City of Pittsburgh paramedic in 1980, and in 1987 he became a member of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire. Joe was a hoseman with 15 Engine in the Lincoln Lemington section of Pittsburgh until he came to 8 Engine and Truck in 1993. Joe has been teaching since 1997 and his favorite classes to teach are Rapid Intervention and Firefighter Survival.

 

Captain Edmund "Ed" Farley

Ed is currently assigned to 17 Truck in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh where he has been for the last 5 years. Ed began his career with the PBF in 1994 as a hoseman at 30 Engine and Truck in the West End section of Pittsburgh for a little over four years. He later moved to 8 Engine and Truck, and was there for less than a year because he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1999. Ed bounced around to a few different Truck companies until he found a home for over 2 years at 33 Truck on the Northside of Pittsburgh. In 2002 Ed was promoted to the rank of Captain and was assigned to 17 Engine. Eddie is a 3rd generation firefighter with his father being a retired Captain of the FDNY. He has been teaching for over 7 years, and his favorite classes to teach are any and all Truck classes, Rapid Intervention, and Firefighter Survival.
